CCB Pre-Licensure Training and Exam (English)
This course is offered hybrid, meaning you can take it online or attend at Clackamas Community College in Milwaukie, OR in person instead. Either option is available to you!
Prepare for the Construction Contractors Board (CCB) exam. This course is offered by the Linn-Benton Small Business Development Center in partnership with the facilitator: Clackamas Community College Small Business Development Center. Please register through us as your local SBDC and we'll connect you with Clackamas for the course. It fulfills the 16-hours of training required by the CCB and includes the actual CCB exam. After passing the class, you will receive an Exam Certificate, which you can use to apply for your CCB license (the exam certificate is valid for 2 years). Currently, the CCB is taking about 4 weeks on average to process applications, so don't delay the test!
This class is an accelerated evening class. We are hoping this makes the class more accessible for people who cannot or do not want to take off work in order to complete the training and exam. It will be a mix of watching videos on your own time, then coming together with the instructor for review, and taking the exam. We call this style a flipped classroom (or for Stranger Things fans, the "upside down" classroom). Here's how it works:
We divide the 14 Chapters of the NASCLA manual into 4 lessons. After a short orientation on Thursday, May 1, we meet on Zoom four times (May 5, 8, 12 and 15). Before each meeting, you will watch the videos for that lesson (and do the practice quizzes). Then, at each meeting, we review the lesson with the instructor (live on Zoom), followed by that portion of the official exam (about 20 questions per exam). Classes are 3-4 days apart, so you'll have 2-3 full days to watch the videos (about 3 hours of videos per class), and take the practice exams.
We recommend signing up for this class AT LEAST 2 weeks ahead of time, so you have time to study. We provide online videos, practice exams and printed study material. If you want to pass the exam on your first try, you'll want to either read the NASCLA book cover to cover (and understand it all), or watch our online videos and take our practice exams :)
This course covers:
- Oregon Construction Law, Employees, Subcontractors
- Oregon Code, Safety, Environmental Issues, Building Envelope
- Bids & Estimates, Contracts, Project Management, Lien Law
- Business Structure, Business Finance, Business Taxes
What are the requirements for this class?
- Must be 18 years old
At the class, produce a valid (not expired) photo ID from this list:
- Driver License
- DMV-issued ID
- Green Card
- Military ID
- US Passport
Our class has a unique approach to the CCB Exam: We divide the NASCLA manual (all 14 chapters) into 4 separate "lessons". Each lesson covers a few chapters of information. Then, after each lesson, you take a short exam that covers only those chapters. That way, you have less to remember on each exam. Once all 4 lessons are complete, you have passed the course, and passed the CCB exam. Also note that we DO NOT provide the NASCLA book - we have developed our own study materials directly from the book, and we provide you with those materials.
You need 70% passing rate on each of the 4 exams, so we give you a LOT of study material ahead of time. If you give yourself about 2-3 weeks of diligent studying with our materials, your chance of success rises DRAMATICALLY!
COST: $450 flat fee, includes:
- ONE free retest (after that, each retest is $50.00)**
- ALL study materials (online videos, practice exams and written study materials)
- Ongoing support (after the class, we help you get your application completed and submitted)
Deadline to register is April 24 (unless the class fills up sooner).
NOTE: Once you submit your application to the CCB ($400), it will take about 4 weeks for them process your application and send you an official CCB license number.
